Privacy Policy
Effective September 19, 2026
In short. SmsPdf has no accounts and does not read your messages. It only sees the screenshots or screen recording you choose to give it. Those images are uploaded so the text can be read, and the finished conversations and documents are stored on your iPhone.
1. Who we are
This policy covers the SmsPdf app for iPhone and the website smspdf.com (together, the "Service"). "We" means the developer of SmsPdf. You can reach us at ivkalapps@gmail.com.
2. What we process
Screenshots and recording frames you import
When you start an import, the app uploads the screenshots you picked, or still frames taken from your screen recording, to our server. They are processed automatically to read the messages, names, dates and times they show. Everything visible in those images is processed, including messages written by other people.
With each image the app also sends the day the image was captured and the date order used on your device (for example day-month-year), so that labels such as "Today" or "Yesterday" become real dates.
Recognized messages
To join several screens into one conversation without repeats, the app sends the recognized message text back to our server once more. The result is returned to the app.
Anonymous device identifier
The app creates a random identifier and keeps it in the iOS Keychain. It is sent with requests to our server and is used to apply daily usage limits and to prevent abuse. It is not your name, your Apple Account, your phone number or the advertising identifier, and we do not link it to your identity.
Purchases
Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple. We never receive your card details. To know whether your subscription is active, the app uses Adapty, a subscription service. Adapty receives purchase and subscription status from Apple together with technical data such as a random user identifier, device model, iOS version, app version, country and language.
Support email
If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. The app adds the app version, iOS version, language and region, subscription status and the anonymous device identifier to a feedback email so we can help; you can delete these lines before sending.
Website
smspdf.com is a static site hosted on Cloudflare. It sets no cookies and has no analytics. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and basic request data to deliver the pages and protect them from attacks. The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser also makes a request to Google when you open a page.
3. What stays on your iPhone
- Your conversations, edits and exported documents are stored in the app on your device. We do not keep a copy of your library.
- Your answers to the welcome questions stay on your device.
- The app does not access the Messages app, your contacts list or any other app's data. If you pick a contact to fill in a name, the choice is made in the iOS contact picker and only the name you picked is used, on your device.
- Photos and videos are chosen through the iOS picker, so the app only receives the items you select.
4. Why we process data and our legal basis
- To turn your images into a conversation, which is the service you ask for (performance of a contract).
- To apply usage limits, keep the Service secure and prevent abuse (legitimate interests).
- To manage subscriptions and restore purchases (performance of a contract).
- To answer support requests (legitimate interests, or your request).
We do not sell personal data, we do not use your content for advertising, and we do not build profiles of you.
5. Service providers
We use other companies to run the Service. They process data on our behalf and only for the purposes above:
- cloud hosting and storage providers, including Cloudflare, which receive the uploaded images and requests;
- an automated text-recognition provider, which may use AI models and processes the uploaded images to read the conversation;
- Adapty, for subscription status;
- Apple, for purchases and app distribution.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the Service.
6. How long we keep data
- Uploaded images are held in temporary storage for processing and are not kept as part of any user library.
- Usage counters tied to the anonymous device identifier are kept for as long as they are needed to apply limits and prevent abuse.
- Support emails are kept for as long as needed to resolve your request and for a reasonable period afterwards.
- Everything stored on your device stays there until you delete the conversation or the app.
7. Other people's messages
Conversations include messages and personal details of other people. You decide what to import and who receives the documents you create. Please make sure you have the right to use and share a conversation, especially outside purely personal use.
8. International transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where the law requires it, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
9. Security
Data travels between the app and our server over encrypted connections, and requests from the app are signed. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Residents of California have the right to know, delete and correct, and the right not to be discriminated against for using these rights.
Because the app has no accounts, we usually cannot tell which data belongs to you. To make a request, write to ivkalapps@gmail.com and we will explain how to find the device identifier we may need. You can delete everything stored on your device at any time by deleting conversations in the app or by deleting the app.
11. Children
SmsPdf is not directed to children under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has used the Service, write to us and we will delete what we can identify.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. The new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. If the changes are significant, we will also tell you in the app.
